Upscale Flea Market Finds a Permanent Place in Dallas: Historic Warehouse to Become a Mecca for Rare Gems
BY Natalie Gempel // 05.23.18
Flea Style has Fall and Spring shows in Houston and Dallas each year.
Since 2009, Flea Style has offered Dallas shoppers a different kind of retail experience – a rare opportunity to find unexpected gems like leather slides from Morocco alongside handmade teepees from Round Rock and vintage T-shirts. Unfortunately, that experience only happened two days a year.
Now, the retail and media company is establishing a real presence in town. Flea Style is opening a permanent store and headquarters in Deep Ellum on June 2.
In a historic warehouse at 3009 Commerce Street, Flea Style will open a 3,000-square-foot retail space, 1,000-square-foot studio/flex space, and corporate office. The company purchased the building last year and spent the last six months restoring and renovating it.
Unlike the Flea Style’s popular, bi-annual, pop-up shopping events, the brick-and-mortar store will be “organically styled” with everything from clothing, decor and textiles, paper goods, plants, and children’s items. Flea Style will tap into its long list of artisans and collectors to choose the store’s featured vendors. The shop will offer vintage, handmade, and one-of-a-kind items from Flea Style vendors, as well as the company’s buying trips to flea markets and unique locations.
The space will regularly host meet-the-maker and trunk show events, as well as free gift wrapping and in-store pick-up for items purchased on shopfleastyle.com.
The studio/flex space will be home to FleaStyle’s weekly podcast, Fridays with Flea Style (on iTunes). Fans will be welcome to sit in on live tapings of the podcast, which has featured guests like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lauren Scruggs Kennedy.
The studio/flex space will also be used for meetings, private events, birthday parties, children’s art camps, and workshops hosted by Flea Style vendors and local artists. The warehouse also features a complimentary wine bar, and sprawling backyard patio.
“This is a dream realized for Flea Style and me,” Brittany Cobb, founder and CEO, says in a statement. “We’re giddy about our Deep Ellum location. From the building’s historic bones to the opportunity to support the small business community in this new way, we’re thrilled for this next chapter in the Flea Style story.”
