Red Hot Restaurant Hosts Celebrating Firefighters in Only Its Third Night: Proposition B and a $500,000 Gala Fuel a Well-Deserved Wild Bash at Ben Berg’s New Place

We can hardly comprehend the enthusiasm that Elizabeth and Alan Stein pumped into their commitment when chairing the inaugural “Red Hot” gala benefiting the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association Charitable Foundation. That sold-out event in September was just the beginning.
For not only did the duo sign up to chair the gala in 2019, but they also added two mini-fundraisers on behalf of the foundation. First was a wildly fun poker party at Baccarat in River Oaks District. Then came the fête at the brand new B.B. Lemon restaurant, where owner Ben Berg joined the effort, and helped welcome more than 130 guests celebrating not only the gala’s $500,000 success but also rejoicing over the passage of Proposition B.
A trio of Latin musicians performed as guests grazed through a field of hors d’oeuvres and supped from the raw bar, a spread like the one that Berg put on the night before when he first opened his casual eatery to a host of friends and customers.
The cocktail event introducing B.B. Lemon on only its third night of business raised more than $21,000 for the foundation. Part of the proceeds came from the auction that included Houston Texans helmets, a tasting dinner and cocktail pairing for eight guests at B.B. Lemon, a Houston Texans suite, a summer week in a beautiful waterfront home in Greece. Deftly handling auctioneer duties was Kevin Scully.
