More Than $5 Million in Donations Trigger a Party at a Grand Old River Oaks Home: It’s All About Helping Doctors, Nurses and Hospital Staff Hurt by Harvey

What: Houston Methodist Society for Leading Medicine cocktail reception

Where: The River Oaks home of Houston old guard stalwarts Sarah and Duncan Underwood

PC Moment: The celebration of generous donors saluted the 529 members who last year contributed more than $5 million to fund research, education and patient care at Methodist. Highlight was Methodist president and CEO Dr. Marc Boom‘s remarks on the impact of the Society’s largesse including $1 million dedicated to the Houston Methodist Employee Relief Fund. That entity provided a total of $8 million in aid to the 6,000 nurses, physicians, housekeepers, food service employees, maintenance and other staff affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Dr. Joshua Harris — associate professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery, head physician for the Houston Dynamo, physician for the Houston Ballet and consulting physician for Rice University — spoke about the newest advances in the Houston Methodist Department of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
