Now Hear This — Our Dream Holiday Wish Lists: Your Glimpse Inside the PaperCity Dallas Office Buzz

BY // 11.16.18

It’s time to start making lists for Santa. I assume all of you have been nice and definitely not naughty this year and thus deserve some luxe items underneath the tree. Given my Asian gene pool, I am a lover of handbags. In my case, call them man-bags or murses. Ever since some of the most masculine of rappers and sports stars started carrying them, I feel in good company.

My co-coveters here at PaperCity feel the same way and we all have bags we are coveting this fall. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired by one of ours. However, if a wait-list situation occurs at Chanel or Neiman Marcus, then be prepared for a heated argument to ensue over who is the most in need.

Thus, this Week’s Now Hear This PaperCity Dallas office question is: What’s on your Christmas wish list?

Christina Geyer, Dallas Editor in Chief

I’m not a big shopper — and rare is it that I will splurge on accessories. While I love the art, craft, and creative genius that goes into fashion, shopping is just not my thing. So, this is probably the hardest question for me to answer yet. (I am a tried and true L.L. Bean Boat & Tote girl.)

But here we go: Until I bite the bullet and actually purchase, I covet two bags. Both are classics. The first is a black quilted Chanel flap bag. (I dream of one day passing that kind of gem down to my future daughter.) I also covet an oversized Goyard tote, monogrammed with my initials, CG. Simple. Easy. Once acquired, I will never have another answer to this question.

With the holiday (and my birthday) season upon us (everyone’s birthday should have a season), sparkling soirees — and wish lists — are very much top of mind. My current pick is this mini satin tassel wristlet by The Row. It’s entirely impractical to hold, especially with a cocktail in hand, but the black satin tassel that hangs more than a foot long is impossibly chic.

Speaking of tassels and chic, I recently gifted myself a little velvet pouch by Attico. I love the dark floral print and how effortless it feels (it is, after all, a drawstring sack) — it’s perfect for transitioning from fall into winter.

Billy Fong, Culture and Style Editor

I’m most definitely a #toteholic. I love the convenience of being able to throw everything I need for the day in quickly as I dash out the door. Then I have the tote readily available on the passenger seat of my car for when I need to dig through to find something. (Whether that’s a breath mint, Kiehls lip balm or passport — never know when you might be asked to fly to Mexico for an impromptu girl’s weekend with someone like Michelle Nussbaumer.) If that sounds to you like an incredibly unsafe way to drive, then you are completely correct.

I happened upon a great Army green denim tote from Tom Ford while on vacation in Scotland this summer. Unfortunately, when I returned I only spied it in blue denim in the states. What’s up Major Tom? Show some love to your fellow Americans and release that bag stateside. Then, as I was researching this story I found it online. Just in time for the holidays.

Like Christina, I’ve long wanted (actually needed is a better word) a Goyard tote. I want a larger one (somehow that seems more macho) in the navy blue and gray print. Mine would be monogrammed with my signature NERD.

I am a sucker for all these Bottega Veneta darlings. Probably because my mom has an arsenal of BV goods she started collecting when she moved to New York City after college. I have my eyes on the one in this story’s photo gallery, and I am so close to pulling the trigger. Light Purple. I. DIE.

Linda Kenney, Account Manager

The search for the perfect crossbody bag began when my beloved and seasoned Prada bag was eaten by my daughter Lindsay’s pup. Little Ann was caught in mid-chew and the bag was bereft of strap.

I have found the perfect replacement and didn’t have to look far. The small Prada “Margit” shoulder bag has everything that is needed.

With its removable strap, it can be worn day or night. Silver hardware is a prerequisite for me (I wear silver jewelry), and its open top with magnetic closure facilitates easy access for wallet, passport or tickets.  I need to drop some hints to my husband. After all, gift-giving season is soon upon us.

For everyday wear with a super chic twist, I covet the Valentino Garavani rockstud tote. Forever in my heart though, like CG is the iconic Chanel flap bag.

Mckenzie Carnes, Sales and Marketing Intern

I am really into all the prints, patterns, and ‘funky’ fashion that is terribly chic now. I love how this is so out of the norm and realm of what we typically see and allows you to express the supercool trendy side of your persona. So, with that being said, I am drooling over these funky bags that spice up that outfit even a little bit more. Bags from Gucci, Fendi, and even more local brands that have spunky patterns, animal prints and designs are right up my alley this fall.

Or, better yet send a message to the office, handwritten on the Smythson stationery of your choice — and feel free to include a bottle of Veuve. Champagne really helps get the ideas flowing.
