Forty Five Ten to Bow Out of River Oaks District: Major Closure Opens Up a Prime Space in Luxury Shopping Mecca

BY // 06.28.18

All good things come to an end. Forty Five Ten, the beloved Dallas-based fashion boutique founded by Brian Bolke, Shelly Musselman and Bill Mackin in 2000, will not be renewing its lease this fall in River Oaks District.

Forty Five Ten first touched down in River Oaks in 2016. The chic shopping mecca’s prime space was in a covetable corner next to Toulouse in the district.

Forty Five Ten Houston offered an expertly curated array of goods and gifts. It featured women’s fashion, menswear, jewelry and accessories, a home objects and gifts department, along with Rare Beauty, an Assouline book department and Copper Bar, which served coffee and champagnes.

Forty Five Ten is shifting its focus not only away from River Oaks District, but from its original flagship location in Dallas as well. The lease for the stately building at 4510 McKinney Avenue in Dallas, which hosted celebrated guests from Cindy Crawford to Tim Gunn over the years and became Forty Five Ten Home in 2016, is shutting its doors on July 31.

Kristen Cole, the newly appointed president and chief creative officer of Forty Five Ten, says future efforts will concentrate on their 37,000 square foot, four-story downtown Dallas flagship which opened with much fanfare in 2016 and the construction and design of the brand’s stunning new flagship store in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, opening spring 2019. An Aspen Forty Five Ten is also underway, set to open this fall. A major ecommerce launch is on the horizon.

Headington Companies — owners of The Joule Hotel, The Lumen, Wheelhouse and Sassetta — purchased Forty Five Ten in 2014.

Forty Five Ten is not River Oaks District’s first notable disappearing act. Word of Forty Five Ten’s closing comes on the heels of the Taverna restaurant shuttering mere weeks ago.

But a new restaurant/night spot has already gobbled up the Taverna space, showing River Oaks District’s allure remains strong.
