Golf Clothes That Don’t Make You Look Like a Boring Dad: Texas Brother Entrepreneurs Change the Pro Shop Game

Growing up in Midland, Texas, brothers Will and Robert Brunner were tired of seeing the same unflattering, ill-fitting clothes on the golf course.

“There was no individual identity, everyone just dressed the same. We were tired of our friends always looking the same and kind of looking like their dads,” says Will.

Unfortunately, there weren’t many other options available in the market.

“We started looking at different pro shops, resorts and they were all carrying the same thing, and no one was really in tune with men’s fashion,” Will says.

Golf style was stuck in a rut of pastels, baggy silhouettes and khaki. The brothers, equally interested in style and performance, were ready to go off course.

“Robert went to fashion school and had this dream to make golf more fashionable,” Will says.

So, in 2013, the duo launched Devereux with a reimagined version of the polo shirt. These new look polos feature a modern, slimmed-down fit, neutral, masculine colors and performance fabric.

Five years later, the brand has blossomed from a single wardrobe staple into a full line of men’s clothing carried at select specialty shops and resorts across the country. The collection includes comfortable basics like button down shirts, sweaters, pants, and hybrid shorts that double as swim trunks. Devereux will launch additional swimwear in February.

“It all comes from what we’re inspired by. We love travel, we love going out, seeing what’s out there in the world,” Robert says. “So we wanted to design apparel for that guy, a one stop shop when he is traveling on the go to his favorite destinations, whether golfing, swimming, hiking, etc.”

Nowadays, the brothers split their time between Dallas and Scottsdale, Arizona, where the brand has headquarters. In addition to being sold online and in select stores, Devereux also has a mobile pop-up boutique which tours golf clubs and resorts in the southwest.
