BY // 10.05.18

What: Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston 30th annual “Great Futures” dinner

Where: Marriott Marquis

PC Moment: Houston Astros owner Jim Crane, manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were on stage with Todd Kalas, the team’s play-by-play announcer, who grilled the gents on all things Astros — to the delight of the 150 Boys & Girls Club members who were seated at dinner tables with the 800-plus guests.

To the delight of chairs Melinda and Jeremy Thigpen, Boys & Girls Club board member as well as Transocean president and CEO, and honorary chair Anita Seghal, board member and vice president of marketing and communications for the Astros, the night raised a generous $1 million.

The Astros were honored for instituting a baseball program at the clubs across the city as well as for the team’s widespread support of the non-profit. The Astros gave three of the club youngsters the opportunity to deliver the game ball during last year’s World Series; renovated the Stafford Boys & Girls Club after it flooded in Hurricane Harvey; and renovated baseball fields at clubs across the city. The area clubs serve 17,000 youngsters.

While joining big ticket buyers at their dinner tables, the club members also provided on stage entertainment.
