Philly-based Kurt Vile has come a long way from playing downstairs at the old Fitzgerald’s (R.I.P.). The man has had a career even his biggest early fans couldn’t dream of. But Vile has arguably remained more relevant than those other artists, whose natural ebbs and flows have taken them on divergent courses: he’s embraced his older-brother stoner status, like a modern-day Jackson Browne or Tom Petty. He’s co-headlining a tour with ’80s post-punk, pre-indie, Nirvana-adjacent veterans Dinosaur Jr., whose “comeback” LEG of their career is now well into a decade.
