Houston’s Celebrity Hairstylist Enjoys the Most Epic Three Day Birthday Party Ever in Miami

MIAMI, Florida — Imagine an undulating parade of bare-chested hunks with disco ball heads, demure geishas who shed their kimonos to reveal burlesque costumes, saucy dames in fringe and stilettos dancing on tabletops, and a towering drag queen delivering a cake sparkling with fireworks. That tableau was the denouement of this past weekend’s epic birthday bash for Ceron.

The level of sublime celebration generated for Houston’s premier hairstylist on the occasion of his 55th birthday could not have been more delicious. It was three days and nights of uninhibited partying with a throng of seasoned revelers and an unexpected cast of entertaining characters.

No surprise, it was the creative wizardry of Todd Ficus, Ceron’s husband, and his Todd Events team that contrived the bacchanal which was centered in Miami’s fabulously gilded glitterati haunt the Faena Hotel Miami Beach. The Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin inspired interiors (think gold and black animal prints, miles of deep red velvets, and gilded everything) set the stage for the happening that surpassed even the protagonist’s bash in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.

The online invitation implored the 58 guests to “Let your inner Leo roar.” And they did. Be it the swells from Dallas (Fiscus’ home base), the BFFs from Houston (Ceron’s domicile) or the sophisticates from New York and D.C., inhibitions were checked at the door and the understanding was that what happens at the Faena, stays at the Faena.

The partying began on Friday when early arrivals were treated to tacos and margaritas in a civilized evening that was a rather quiet prelude to the remainder of the weekend. Saturday partying began poolside at the Faena  where the couple’s newly-adopted baby, Ana Emilia Ceron-Fiscus, made a cameo appearance and was once again photographed in the arms of the pappas’ friends. Then it was off to nap time for all in anticipation of the night’s festivities.

The pizza (wood-fired from the hotel’s ovens) and rosé fête unfurled in the hotel’s Mammoth Garden, a stone’s throw from the dazzling woolly-mammoth skeleton, which was coated in 24-karat gold by artist Damien Hirst. After consuming 100 or so bottles of rosé and lesser numbers of pizza and ice cream sundaes, the good boys and girls headed to bed.

The others headed out on the town hitting Miami’s rocking disco scene. A generous handful made it home by 2 am while at least one duo didn’t retrieve their room keys until 4:30, not long before sunrise.

That made it not so easy for some to make the 10:45 am luxury bus ride to the Miami Beach Marina where four leisure yachts awaited. The vessels ranged from 75 feet to 58 feet, each air-conditioned and each loaded with picnic style luncheons and gallons of bubbly and vino. After touring the Miami waters, the boats anchored in Biscayne Bay stern-aside-stern in an arrangement that encouraged boat-hopping. The water toys hit the waves and so did the party people.

Four hours later, we sailed back to the hotel for serious nap time in order to be at our freshest for the “Ceron Circus” that kicked off in the hotel’s swank Living Room at 8 pm sharp.

DJ spins amped up the energy while a host of costumed characters added notes of intrigue to the surroundings. Once guests had had sufficient time to schmooze with one another and graze through the seafood and pasta buffets (we wondered what mega chef and guest Thomas Keller thought of it), the dancing characters began arriving. Never mind those who had been interrupting reality from the party’s start. In came the geishas, the disco heads, the naughty dancers and the drag queen with the cake and the rocker version of  “Happy Birthday.” The birthday boy was on a love high.

The entertainers led the now well-watered troupe on a conga line of sorts to the hotel’s boutique theater where the entertainment — Elan Artists, directed by Josh Friedman; RuPaul’s Drag Race star Marc Jacobs; and Muse MILK — ran nonstop until 1:30 Monday morning. Aerial performers, professional dancers and the show band with dancers carried the wild enthusiasm of the night. Dance, dance, dance. More food and more drink was consumed. More revelry ensued.

Flights home later in the day were a tough follow-up. And as more than one guest noted, “What are they going to do for Ceron’s 60th?”
