The occasional collision of the high fashion world and the contemporary art world brings cause for extra creative celebrations. Louis Vuitton unveiled its latest high-profile artistic collaboration with an eye-popping pop-up shop to kickoff New York Fashion Week.
Louis Vuitton’s set the standard for bringing artists and fashion together and this time, they tapped Los Angeles based artist Jonas Wood. Wood created a textile collection for Fall/Winter 2019 that showcases his vibrant and colorful vision.
This time his canvas is Louis Vuitton’s signature textiles in silk carrés, shawls and stoles. The artist juxtaposes the quintessential LV Monogram pattern with an orange basketball, a yellow flower and a black and-white pot (inspired by his wife, the artist Ship Kusaka) as motifs to bring his boldly playful interpretation of the iconic pattern to life.
The 11 piece collection features opulent, frame worthy textiles. The classic silk carrés prove to be an ideal vessel for Wood’s collage style, with its nods to the work of Henri Matisse and David Hockney.

A few carrés are flush with bright blues, reds and greens depicting lush vegetation, taken from Wood’s Clippings series of works which evoke the artist’s adopted city of Los Angeles. Other textiles play on the classic Vuitton signature with inspiration taken from the unique fabric wallpaper in Wood’s grandfather’s home. The depth of Woods talent rings soundly through each limited edition design.
This collaboration is an exuberant new chapter in Louis Vuitton’s long history of working with celebrated artists on its textiles (it’s the second collaboration this year, following one with Alex Israel). Following in the foot steps of legendary creatives Sol LeWitt Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Stephen Sprouse and Yayoi Kusama, Jonas Wood finds himself in very good company indeed.
The Louis Vuitton x Jonas Wood textile collection is available online and in stores worldwide. Let the scarf shopping frenzy continue.
