This year’s Pride Houston event is celebrating more than 40 years. The eclectic and colorful celebration of gay pride, filled with performers and parades will be gifting a special something to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner this weekend: an original artwork entitled Pride #3 by artist Ben Workman aka Jumper Maybach.
This Saturday June 23 at 7 pm on the Main Stage at 901 Bagby Street, the ingenious Maybach, who uses his talents to defeat hate, bullying and intolerance, will present Mayor Turner with the piece. It is set to be displayed temporarily in Houston City Hall, and will later be placed in the collection of the Houston Arts Alliance.
The artwork to be presented is a kick-start to a new series by Maybach for the city of Houston, Pride Collection: INTROSPECTION. Pride #3 and the other pieces in the collection were created not only for Maybach to showcase his love and support for LGBT community, but also for the rapidly expanding #MeToo movement.
“As a victim of workplace sexual discrimination, I felt it was my duty to stand up and express myself at this pivotal time in history,” Maybach says. “I want my art to be that beacon of hope that inspires others to standup to ending injustices within society.”
See Maybach and the fantastic lineup of Todrick Hall, Stephanie Rice, A Great Big World, and more make their debut on Pride Houston’s stage this weekend.
