Breakaway Music Festival returns to Dallas this spring after a five-year hiatus. The multi-city festival brings together some of the top names in hip-hop and EDM for a full day of live music spanning both genres. Breakaway will come to Irving’s Toyota Music Factory on Saturday, April 7, with artists Lil Dicky, Rich the Kid and YFN Lucci headlining the bill.
The festival, which also makes stops in Grand Rapids, Columbus and Charlotte, hasn’t held an event in Dallas since 2013 – when it brought Wu Tang Clan, Empire of the Sun, and Juicy J to Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
This time around, the concert lineup is more focused on up-and-coming stars of the music industry.
Rapper Rich the Kid was recently named No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart, after his singles “New Freezer” ft. Kendrick Lamar and “Plug Walk” brought him into the spotlight. YFN Lucci, also a relatively new artist, is best known for his hit 2016 single “Key to the Streets.” Lil Dicky, who found fame from his independently released debut album, “Professional Rapper,” will close out the festival.
EDM artists on the bill include Whethan and Justin Caruso, two more rising stars, Niiko X Swae, The Lost Boys and more.
“The Festival combines an urban aesthetic with a carefully curated, multi-genre lineup which allows festival goers of all ages and music preferences to enjoy an unforgettable weekend no matter where they live,” festival managing partner Adam Lynn said in a statement.
Breakaway will be the first event of its kind at the Toyota Music Factory (formerly known as the Irving Music Factory), the $200 million mega entertainment complex which kicked open its doors last fall.
