Dallas’ Memorial Day Weekend Guide — the 10 Best Things to do Over Your Holiday

Dallas weekends are packed full of events, but how many of them are truly worthy of your time? PaperCity‘s new events calendar offers a curated look at all of the best things to do in the area. But everyone can still use an expert.

Honor the Troops

If you’re staying in town for Memorial Day weekend, there are tons of events around the city to celebrate with fireworks and remember those who fought for our country.

Klyde Warren Park is having a Memorial Day Music Fest on Sunday, May 26 from 2 pm to 10 pm. Hang out on the lawn and check out performances on multiple stages throughout the day and night. Rock, jazz and country music will be playing and there will be vendor booths, a family game zone, face painting and food trucks.

Bring the family to the Dallas Arboretum for a special Memorial Day celebration on Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 from 9 am to 4 pm. The Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden will be open to learn about some of the symbols and traditions of Memorial Day. A special lab will also bring the red, white and blue to the garden and the Omni globe theater will be a glow for the holiday.

On Monday, May 27, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is hosting a Memorial Day concert and fireworks display at Flag Pole Hill. The event is free and begins at 8:15 pm. In honor of America’s veterans and first responders, the Orchestra is presenting a concert of patriotic tunes for the entire family. You can bring a picnic and listen under the stars.

If you’re looking for a more adults-only scene, check out the Memorial Day Pool Party at The Adolphus. The event is 21 and up only and takes place this Sunday, May 26 from 12 pm to 5 pm. DJ Bradford will be spinning and a $20 individual ticket includes pool access, a towel, valet parking, and one complimentary glass of Champagne.

Listen To Some Tunes

The Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical is at Wyly Theatre until Sunday, May 26. Based on the French novel, Les Liasions Dangereuses and the cult classic film starring Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillipe and Sarah Michelle Geller, the musical pulls you into the manipulative world of Manhattan’s most dangerous liaisons: Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil.

The show will feature throwback hits by artists like Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, REM, NSYNC and Britney Spears.

Matthew Tyler Musto, aka blackbear, is performing at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Saturday, May 25 at 8 pm. An American singer, songwriter and record producer, the Palm Coast-native is known for hits like “do re mi,” “Idfc,” and “chateau.” His most recent album, Anonymous, came out this year.

Head to Dos Equis Pavilion in Fair Park for 97.1 The Eagle Presents BFD 2019 ft. Shinedown on Sunday, May 26. The lineup also includes rockers Seether, In This Moment, +LIVE+, THRICE, Bad Wolves, The Glorious Sons and The Dirty Nil. The event begins at 1:20 pm and tickets start at $25. 

Try Some Bites and Sips

On Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, The Buddhist Center of Dallas is hosting the 2019 Thai Culture & Food Festival at 10 am to 6 pm. The event is free to enter at 8484 Stults Road. Free parking is available in these areas.

The 9th Annual Dallas Margarita Meltdown is taking place in the West End from 5 pm to 8 pm this Sunday, May 26. For $40, you gain entry to the event, a margarita tasting card to sample everything, and a wooden chip to cast your vote. Competitors will concoct their best margarita and the winner will be announced at 8:45 pm.

Enter Another World

The third and newest installation of the Sweet Tooth Hotel, Discotech, opens this Saturday, May 25 at 2316 Victory Park Lane. Discotech combines music and digital art to create interactive audio-visual installations. When you enter, you’ll put on silent headphones and explore the newly expanded space, complete with a bar. Reserve your tickets online. You’ll want to get them early.
