What: Salon Talk, Morning Mimosas, and book signing with AD 100, Elle Decor A List designer Timothy Corrigan

Where: David Sutherland Showroom

Book: Timothy Corrigan’s At Home in France: Inspiration and Style in Town and Country (Rizzoli)

Highlights: Corrigan serves on the international board of trustees of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art and the French Heritage Society and has refurbished countless châteaux in France.

Takeaway: The dashing and witty Timothy Corrigan made his way back to our side of the pond to share his life as a château-holic. Yes, the French manses are his beloved and costly vice. He hoped to find kindred spirits amongst the guests gathered; Ann Sutherland admitted she’s contemplating tapping into Corrigan’s addiction and was slowly convincing her husband, David. Corrigan’s sage advice to all: “You never truly own a château — you are simply a custodian for the next owners. Don’t be afraid of color, mix styles and periods, both low and high. Rooms are meant to be lived in, not just looked at. Hang art in the French style — larger paintings on top and smaller below.”

Spotted: David Sutherland, Christian Leard, John Bobbitt, Sara See, Margaret Imber, Jacqueline Belcher, Ellett Miciotto, Mackenzie Wray, Ginger Hartford, Audri Harrell, and Lauren Warrington. Billy Fong

What: Texas Design Week Dallas Kick-Off Lunch and Panel Discussion: House + Garden, A Collaborative Trifecta; Architect, Designer, Landscape Designer

Where: The Luxury Bed Collection

Book: Cathy Purple Cherry’s The Design of a Country Estate: Purple Cherry Architecture & Interiors (Gibbs Smith)

Panel: Cathy Purple Cherry, Purple Cherry Architecture & Interiors, Annapolis, Maryland; Margie Lavender, partner, Kligerman Architecture & Design, NYC; Melissa Reavis, residential studio lead, Hollander Design Landscape Architects, NYC, Chicago; Samantha Reitmayer Sano and Joslyn Taylor, Swoon the Studio, Dallas.

Highlights: The panelists discussed the power of early collaboration between architects, interior, and landscape designers, led by The Luxury Bed Collection’s founder, Mary Pat Wallace — a wide-ranging conversation with rapid-fire responses. The talent involved was undeniable. Reavis’ company, Hollander Design Landscape Architects, is one of the few landscape architecture firms ever included in Architectural Digest‘s AD 100. Cherry’s new book, The Design of a Country Estate, is packed with inspiring images of a single country estate on the Chesapeake Bay — with four full kitchens and 13 en-suite bedrooms, plus guesthouses and outbuildings — and discusses the process for developing a comprehensive project. Panelists agreed that clear communication and educating clients about budgets at the start is crucial to avoiding difficult conversations midway through a project.

Spotted: Lloyd Lumpkins, Ellen Niven, Lloyd Princeton, Shawna Kuykendall, Kara Goss, Suzy Childress, Ceron, Macedonia Cortez Smith, Tomi Moore, Joyce Fox, Lauren Cornelius, Richard Drummond Davis, Michele Renault-Rutt, and Natashea Mutuma. Billy Fong

What: Two LA Design Stars Align: Brigette Romanek and Jake Arnold Moderated by Elle Decor‘s Bebe Howorth

Where: Stark Showroom

Books: Brigette Romanek’s Livable Luxe (Chronicle Chroma) and Jake Arnold: Redefining Comfort (Rizzoli)

Highlights: Brigette Romanek and Jake Arnold burst into the Stark showroom, just a few minutes before their talk, unable to pull themselves away from the Dallas Design District. “We’re moving to Dallas,” said Arnold, while Romanek looked a bit askance. The Uber that picked them up from the airport had a Just Married sign on the back … nothing in Dallas is as it seems.

Takeaway: Brigette Romanek‘s clients include Gwyneth Paltrow (who also wrote the foreword to her book), Demi Moore, Jay-Z, Kelly Rowland, Molly Sims, and Rachel Zoe, to name a few, and she is on the AD 100 and Elle Decor A-List. Jake Arnold has skyrocketed from the inception of his company three years ago, is on the AD 100 list, and co-founded the interiors platform The Expert. The lively talk was moderated by Bebe Howorth, interiors director, Elle Decor, where she leads the brand’s decorating and home design coverage.

Spotted: Stark’s Dennis Kelley, Will Massie, Javier Burkle, Sally Kennedy, Somers Gerson, Maddie Ainsworth, Nazira Handal, Natalie Allen, Megan Withrow, Amy Donham, Lloyd Princeton, and Erica McLain.

What: An Evening with Legendary Designer Michael S. Smith

Where: Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

Book: Michael S. Smith: Classic By Design

Highlights: One of the most original and respected designers working today (AD 100 Hall of Fame and Elle Decor A List), Michael Smith‘s cocktail and salon talk sold out with a full house at the Mansion. Appointed by President Obama to serve on the Committee for the Preservation of the White House, Smith redesigned the White House living quarters during the Obama administration. Smith looked very presidential himself standing at the podium in a natty navy suit.

Takeaway: Hopefully a copy of his new book, the first in a decade, which sold out during the evening.

Spotted: It’s easier to say who wasn’t there from the design world. In the crowd: Josh Pickering, Meredith Ellis, Ellen Niven, Noel Pittman, Chad Dorsey, Ann and David Sutherland, Doniphan Moore, Daniel Heath, Chesie Breen, Bebe Howarth (Elle Decor interiors director, who performed the introduction honors); Grayson KnightSydney WarringtonScott Cook, Ramon Longoria, Brad Kelly, Jeffrey Michael, Katie Levy, and Katy Cecere. Farrow & Ball sponsored the evening, along with TXDW title sponsors, with Kennard Jones representing the British paint company.

What: Following Michael Smith’s salon talk, the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek hosted a cozy southern supper in the Mansion Library, with a crackling fire and a table of famous faces from the design world.

Highlights: The last to arrive? Michael Smith and entourage, with the best reason: He’d worked his fingers to the bone signing hundreds of books following his talk, uncramping his fingers in time to clutch a stiff drink.

Spotted: Ann and David Sutherland, Jan and Jim Showers, Mark Sikes, Brigette Romanek, Jake Arnold, Nazira Handal, Oliver Furth, Nicolas Pickaerts in from London, Lisa Pomerantz, Charlotte Carr, Chesie Breen, and Ellen Niven.
