Supersized Drag Queen Show Makes This 20th Houston Anniversary Unforgettable — It’s a Moulin Rouge Night

The scene: One well air-conditioned corner of the vast live music complex welcomed more than 300 guests to “An Afternoon at Moulin Rouge,” the first in-person assembly for the annual drag show fundraiser since COVID. So it was with much celebration that more than 25 entertainers donned their best in sequins, wigs, falsies and stilettos to encourage contributions from the audience for which there was no admission charge. (PS, costuming extended to several gregarious guests who did their share of embracing a rather raucous Moulin Rouge esthetic.)
Thanks to the talent assembled and the prestige of the honorees, the Sunday afternoon fête for Legacy raised more than $121,000. Taking bows for their commitment to the nonprofit were Katy Caldwell, who retired last July as Legacy CEO after 25 years with the organization; and Legacy supporters Domenic Cusano and Felicia aka “Scarlett” St. John.
Helming the lively LGBTQ event were Tony Bravo, Cyndy Garza Roberts and Ray Purser, who led the very merry throng in sing alongs, cat calls, whistles and, most fun of all, tossing greenbacks at the performers.
While the entertainment lineup including Alexa Bouvier, Ivanna Cupcake, Marcia Mink Gill, Ginger Grand, Adeciya Iman and Angela Mercy rocked the scene, it was the Kings of Houston and their popular impersonation of Village People that sent the throng to their feet in jubilant sing-alongs.

In a more tender moment, Kimberly Anne O’Neil and Martinique Bouvier performed to “Send in the Clowns,” in memory of their pal recently passed Crystal Rae Lee Love, a Mint Julep performer staple.
