4,000 Butterflies Take Over the Dallas Galleria: Selfie Wall and Towering Art are Making a Real Difference

If you’re like us, constantly rummaging for activities to do inside with the AC on blast instead of braving the 100-plus-degree heat, then you’re in luck. Take a trip to the Dallas Galleria and see its latest art installment, From Fold to Flight, on display until June 30.

In collaboration with Paper for Water, the artwork on display above the iconic ice rink in Center Court is made up of more than 4,000 origami butterflies of all different colors. Take a minute or two to marvel at its beauty and complexity, while also supporting an amazing and heartwarming cause.

Paper for Water was started by two sisters, Isabelle, 14, and Katherine, 11, who were sickened to hear that young girls their age in Third World countries were unable to attend school due to their constant hauling of water. In addition, when the sisters found out that a kid dies every 20 seconds from unsanitary water, they knew a change had to be made.

Through one piece of paper at a time, Paper for Water is funding water wells in developing countries, while also empowering the youth to get involved with philanthropy, leadership skills and entrepreneurship. Along with the 501c3 Foundation, Keiki International Foundation, as acting parent company of this child-led movement, the cause spreads awareness regarding the water crisis and encourages the youth to get involved at an early age and help out, no matter what the organization.

As kids broaden their knowledge about the world around them, they’re also improving their understanding, empathy, and compassion.
