An evolved aesthetic and a unique brand narrative. These were the buzzwords for Decorative Center Houston’s lineup of events. First, the illuminating and cosmopolitan tastes of New York-based designer Eric Cohler were explored in conjunction with a signing for his new book, Cohler on Design (The Monacelli Press). Cohler urged those interested in art, architecture and interior design to indulge their passions, learn as much about they can and create imaginative and intelligent spaces that speak to larger themes of connoisseurship and knowledge. Sheila Cloudt of Brunschwig & Fils and Kravet hosted the gifted narrator’s presentation signing and light lunch. Style students: Sarah Eilers, Laura Beth Rickaway, Catheryn Wilson, Kravet’s Leo James and Scott Boyd, Stephen Farish, Terry Harmon, and Janet Gust. For the DCH’s Market, center owner Charles Cohen compiled a nuanced panel of design insiders including L.A.-based interior designer Mary McDonald, New York-based interior designer Charles Pavarini and author and textile designer John Robshaw. Moderating the keynote discussion was Houston designer to the czars Bill Stubbs. A lively discussion about building one’s brand ensued. Afterwards, Duralee showroom hosted Robshaw for a signing of his new book, John Robshaw Prints: Textiles, Block Printing, Global Inspiration, and Interiors (Chronicle Books), which details the creative process behind his lauded textiles (carried at Duralee). The day concluded with the presentation of the sixth annual Stars of Design and the second annual Stars on the Rise. In the audience and on stage: award recipient Julie Soefer, Mark Scioneaux, Mimi Wadsworth, Bret Duhon, Rachel Barry, Anah Hanson, Laura Weaver, Megan Phillips, Jordan Newman, Jennifer Grigsby, Emily Duff, Brittany Cassin, Richard Humphreys, and Laura and Michael Umansky.
