Home is where the heart is, as underscored by two galas this season. First, Houston’s Habitat for Humanity invited revelers to don ruby slippers for There’s No Place Like Home Gala, which celebrated the nonprofit’s 25th anniversary. Chairmen Kelli Cohen Fein and Martin Fein, Leela and Nat Krishnamurthy, Anita and Gerald Smith, and Trini Mendenhall Sosa and Frank Sosa presided over the Emerald City evening at the Hilton Americas–Houston, which raises money to aid Houston-area underprivileged families acquire homes. Homebodies: Emcee Deborah Duncan attired as Dorothy, speaker Dorothy Howard, Margaret Williams with Jim Daniel, Don and Nancy Woo, and Winell and William Herron. Houston Heights Association’s Then & Now Gala began with tours of Heights homes followed by an art-focused night at Silver Street Studios curated by chairmen Chris Silkwood, Anne Culotta, and Kelly Simmons. The candle- and lantern-lit seated dinner catered by Hilton Americas-Houston, was followed by tunes from DJ William Jason Puffer. Acolytes of the Heights: Kermit Eisenhut, Kathye Elledge, Kristal Kirksey, Trudy Nelson, Eileen Reed, John Newcaster, and Dawnia Willis.
