When Renaissance woman Maya Angelou — one of the greatest voices of our time — spoke at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church as part of The Brilliant Lecture Series, admirers hung on her every word. As a writer, social activist, educator and confidant to some of the 20th century’s greatest minds (Martin Luther King, James Baldwin and Malcolm X, among others), Angelou has developed a unique take on the American experience that resonates with all whom she touches. Rightly riveted: Mayor Annise Parker, Sofia Adrogue, Brilliant Lecture Series founder Scott Brogan, Caroline Baker, Margaret Doughty, Gloria Moritz, and crooner Troy Anderson.
