Laughter filled the River Oaks Country Club when The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research staged its first annual Stand-Up for Brain Cancer Gala with headliner Kevin Nealon of Saturday Night Live. More than 500 guests gathered to enjoy the show, as well as cocktails, dinner and a silent auction. The benefit raised $950,000 for the cause. Emcee Chuck Yates introduced MD Anderson’s Ronald DePinho and Raymond Sawaya, who discussed advances in brain cancer research, while MD Anderson colleague Frederick Lang was awarded the inaugural grant presentation. Cancer crusaders: founders Jamie and James Broach, Lynda Chin, Gildy Babiera, Lorraine and Jackson Wise, Emelie and Tray Black, and actor Lee Majors, who introduced Nealon.
