Music icon Gilberto Gil will
perform at Jones Hall for one night only on Friday, March 26, as part of
the Society for the Performing Arts’ International series. The String Concert
will also feature the Brazilian Grammy winner’s son, guitarist Bem Gil, as well
as cellist Jaques Morelenbaum.
Gil — who helped introduce the
Tropicalist genre — is renowned as a singer, composer and guitarist in both world
and pop music circles. During his four-decade career, he’s released 30 albums,
with six gold records and four platinum singles to his name. He’s heralded for
his performances at the Montreaux Jazz Festival and has toured Europe, Asia,
Africa, and North and South America. Through the years, his music segued into
political and environmental activism, and those worlds merged when he became
Brazil’s minister of culture in 2002.
