Janus et Cie, 3935 San Felipe St., 713.621.5950;

The ultra-chic showroom responsible for outfitting the most fashionable outdoor mise en scène we’ve ever seen has taken up residence on San Felipe. Janus et Cie packed up its former to-the-trade showroom in Decorative Center Houston and moved to tony River Oaks, taking over the clapboard building once inhabited by Smith & Hawken. Outside, the lovely gardens have been carefully groomed and propped with the kind of signature high-style outdoor furniture that has made Janice Feldman’s L.A.-based company beloved by designers and architects for 35 years. Inside, the white-painted walls and ceiling soar to 20-plus feet, anchored on both ends by faux boxwood arches — an all-weather accessory, scaled to enormous proportions, that’s become the company’s signature. Manager Marvin Comeaux and his staff help designers (and customers working sans designers) select both indoor and outdoor furnishings, residential and commercial, that range from timeless traditional rattan and wicker to the avant-garde, seen in the word’s most famous hotels, spas, estates, yachts, restaurants and museums. And should you hesitate to use Janus et Cie’s sumptuous chenille, velvet, leather-like, sheer and menswear-inspired fabrics to cover cushions and fashion curtains outdoors, rest assured these experts are known not only for their design acumen, but for their R+D into materials that withstand Mother Nature’s wrath. Don’t miss the beautifully designed chaises, benches, barstools, tables and textiles.
