When Saks Fifth Avenue e-mailed to announce a watering hole in the men’s department on the third floor, it was manna from heaven. Don’t get me wrong; I love to shop — but I may love cocktailing more. After all, a good stiff drink always fits. Simply called 12, the clubby 19th hole is slated to have a full-service bar stocked with manly bracers and a menu of sandwiches, desserts and coffees. We’ve thought longingly of the big oak bar that kept vigil in the men’s department when Saks opened in the ‘90s. It was debunked for more selling space, we suppose. We couldn’t love the new name more: 12, the perfect number of hours to fill with toasting, quaffing and swilling. Also fueling the Saks men’s department are new names including Burberry, Ferragamo, a Montblanc shop, new space devoted to designs from the Carr label and DJs spinning every Saturday.
